University of Huddersfield

The University has a long and proud history – it can trace its roots back to 1825 – but it is very much in touch with the modern world.
With a £130 million turnover, the University contributes an estimated £300 million to the local economy and recruits staff and students from across the region, and across the world. Currently almost 130 countries are represented on campus. Much of the research carried out at Huddersfield has links to industry and business and the University is one of the most active in student placements, allowing students to contribute directly to the region’s activities.

Sustainability is high on our agenda, and with 24,000 students and over 1,900 staff this is a big issue for us. Our environmental performance has won us 9th place in the Universities’ Green League and important work is taking place here in the development of biofuels, efficient engines and reducing the environmental impact of emissions.
Looking to the future our plans are to continue the current growth in research, postgraduate studies and overseas recruitment, as well as to continue to develop our Barnsley and Oldham campuses. Undergraduate applications to Huddersfield increased above the national average in 2010 - confirmation of the feedback that we receive from our students – that they value and enjoy their experience here.
